AIS Technician Takes Home Silver in SkillsUSA Competition

June 22-26 was an exciting week for our very own AIS technician, Robert Beier. During this week Robert was able to travel to Louisville, Kentucky and participate in the SkillsUSA competition for “Diesel Equipment Technology”. Rob competed against 40 other participants from all over the country in 14 different diagnosis and repair categories. Out of 40 other technicians, Rob came in second place and took home the silver medal in his competition class.

The SkillsUSA Diesel Equipment Technology competition is composed of 14, 30 minute stations during which participants perform tasks in repair and diagnosis on engines, electrical systems, powertrain systems including chassis and transmissions. Participants also demonstrate their skills in hydraulic systems, vehicle inspections, failure analysis, brake systems, air-conditioning systems, and general shop skills. The participants also perform a job interview and complete a written test.

Robert Beier is 22 years old and is from Saint Clair, Michigan. He is current enrolled in the Heavy Equipment Technology program at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. When he is not in school, he is working for AIS as a Field Technician. Rob said that his favorite part of the competition was that it helped him figure out his own personal strengths and weaknesses and that he got to meet people from around the country. Congratulations on this accomplishment, Rob!
